Rome Airport Taxi Fares 2026: €55 Fiumicino, €40 Ciampino

Taxis between Rome's airports and the city centre do not run the meter. Roma Capitale fixes the fare for a licensed white taxi between Fiumicino and anywhere inside the Aurelian Walls at €55, and between Ciampino and the same zone at €40. The price is per car, applies in both directions and already includes the supplements, so luggage and night or holiday rates add nothing.

Where does the fixed fare apply?

The zone follows the Aurelian Walls around the historic centre, which takes in Termini station, the Colosseum and Trastevere. Roma Capitale also sets a few other prices from Fiumicino: €60 to Tiburtina station, €50 to Ostiense, €55 to Ciampino and €130 to the cruise port at Civitavecchia. From Ciampino, Tiburtina and Ostiense stations cost the same €40 as the centre.

The edge of the zone comes from a 2006 city map, and guides disagree about a few districts just outside the walls, such as Prati by the Vatican. Give the driver the full address and confirm the price before you set off. Outside the zone the meter runs: from Fiumicino a trip that starts or ends inside the GRA ring road cannot cost more than €80, and other destinations have a €35 minimum.

How do you avoid paying more?

Take a white taxi with a TAXI sign on the roof and the licence number on the doors, from the official rank outside arrivals (Terminals 1 and 3 at Fiumicino). People offering rides inside the terminal are not licensed taxis, and the airport warns they may charge more. Taxis licensed by the town of Fiumicino work from a separate stand and charge their own rates, so for the Roma Capitale fare look for the city's symbol on the front doors. A fixed fare holds only for a direct trip to the address you gave, with no detours or extra pickups.

Taxi, train, bus or pre-booked transfer?

From Fiumicino, the Leonardo Express train reaches Termini in 32 minutes for €14 per person, so one to three people pay less than the taxi and four pay about the same. Terravision coaches start at €4 but depend on traffic. Ciampino has no station at the terminal: coaches to Termini start at €6.50, and the Ciampino Airlink bus-and-train ticket costs €2.70.

A pre-booked private transfer from Fiumicino to the centre was quoted at €82 for a sedan and €99 for a minivan, well above the €55 taxi. It is worth it for a late arrival, a group of five or more, or if you want a driver waiting with your name; otherwise the official taxi is the better deal.
