Ciampino Airport to Rome: €40 Fixed Taxi, Bus or Transfer

Ciampino is Rome's second airport, used mostly by low-cost airlines, about 15 km south-east of the centre. Roma Capitale, which publishes the fixed fares for both Rome airports, sets the taxi fare from Ciampino to anywhere inside the Aurelian Walls at €40 per car, with every supplement included. The same price applies to Tiburtina and Ostiense stations, and a taxi on to Fiumicino costs €55.

Official taxi

The rank is outside the arrivals hall. Licensed taxis are white, with a TAXI sign on the roof, the city's symbol on the front doors and the licence number on the doors and inside. Give the driver the full address: the fixed fare covers a direct trip with luggage at any hour, in both directions. Ignore people offering rides inside the terminal; the airport warns they are not licensed.

Coach and train

There is no railway station at the terminal. Terravision, SIT and Romeairportbus-Schiaffini run coaches to Termini, with Terravision fares from €6.50 one way online; the journey depends on traffic on the Appia. The Ciampino Airlink ticket combines a shuttle bus from the square opposite the terminal to Ciampino station with a regional train to Termini, for €2.70. It is the cheapest way in, but it means a change with your bags.

Pre-booked transfer

A private transfer from Ciampino to the centre was quoted at €81 for a sedan and €101 for a minivan, for a mid-October afternoon arrival: about twice the official taxi fare. The driver waits at arrivals, which helps when a late low-cost flight lands to a long taxi queue.

Which should you choose?

On your own or as a couple with light bags, the Airlink or a coach saves money. With three or more people, children or heavy luggage, the €40 taxi is the easiest choice. Book a transfer if you want the car confirmed before you land.
