Faro Airport Taxi Fares 2026: Albufeira, Vilamoura, Lagos
Faro Airport taxis run on the meter, with no fixed fares. Estimates to Albufeira, Vilamoura and Lagos, the €11 Aerobus, transfers and the October change.
Quick answer
Taxis from Faro Airport have no fixed fares and run on the meter, on the tariff set by Portugal's 2024 national taxi price convention. On that tariff a car comes to about €51–61 to Albufeira, €27–33 to Vilamoura and €98–118 to Lagos, before tolls. Traffic and waiting time push the meter up, so treat these as estimates.

Fixed taxi fares are the official prices published by Portugal's 2024 national taxi price convention, checked on 2026-10-14. Metered trips are estimated from the official tariff, before tolls. Transfer prices are live quotes and vary with the travel date.
Faro Airport is the gateway to the Algarve, and its taxis have no fixed fares: every trip runs on the meter, on Portugal's national tariff. Because Faro applies the per-kilometre tariff, the passenger pays for the taxi's empty return over the whole route, which is why the long runs to Albufeira or Lagos cost more than the distance suggests. A new national tariff takes effect on 23 October 2026, explained below.
What does the meter cost today?
Until taxis switch to the new tariff, the 2024 national price convention applies. From the airport the meter runs on the per-kilometre tariff: on weekdays from 06:00 to 21:00 the flag fall is €3.25 and covers the first 1,385 metres, then €1.06 per kilometre. At night, from 21:00 to 06:00, and all day at weekends and on public holidays, it is €3.90 and €1.27 per kilometre. In slow traffic the meter charges by time instead: €16.50 an hour by day and €19.80 at night. There is no airport supplement and no minimum fare; a luggage supplement of €1.60 applies when bags go in the boot.
How much is a taxi from Faro Airport?
On today's tariff a taxi comes to about €9–€11 into Faro, €27–€33 to Vilamoura, €51–€61 to Albufeira, €78–€94 to Portimão and €98–€118 to Lagos. The low end is a weekday daytime fare and the high end a night, weekend or holiday fare. These count distance only, so traffic and the luggage supplement add a little.
The new tariff from 23 October 2026
AMT, the transport regulator, published Regulation 1324-A/2026 on 13 October. From 23 October a taxi fare is a flag fall plus a price per kilometre and a price per minute of the trip: in the first year €0.58 per kilometre and €0.28 per minute. The per-minute part is 25% higher at night (22:00 to 07:00), 50% higher in the daytime at weekends and on public holidays and 75% higher on weekend nights, and the price per kilometre is the same wherever the trip starts or ends. Taxis have 90 days to reprogram their meters, so until about 21 January 2027 you may meet either tariff. On the long runs the new formula is cheaper. In normal traffic a weekday daytime trip works out at about €23 to Vilamoura, €40 to Albufeira, €60 to Portimão and €74 to Lagos, against €27, €51, €78 and €98 on today's tariff, while short trips into Faro barely change.
Bus and train
The Próximo 16 city bus links the airport with Faro's bus station in about 17 minutes, leaving the airport from 05:20 to 00:10 on weekdays. For the resorts, the Vamus Aerobus (line 56) runs from the airport to Albufeira for €11, Portimão for €14 and Lagos for €17, with 20% off a return ticket; its timetable changes with the season, so check it before you fly. There is no railway station at the airport, but from Faro station regional trains run along the coast to Lagos for €8.30.
Bolt and other ride-hailing apps
Ride-hailing works at Faro Airport. Bolt says its pickup points are shown in the app and signposted at the airport; check that the car and driver match the app before you get in. Prices change with demand, so compare them with the estimates above.
Taxi or pre-booked transfer?
For Faro itself the taxi is the cheaper car: a private transfer into the city was quoted at €27. On the long runs the gap closes. A sedan transfer to Albufeira was quoted at €48 against €51–€61 on today's meter, and to Lagos at €107 against €98–€118, for an arrival on a weekday afternoon in late October. A transfer also fixes the price in advance and has a driver waiting at arrivals.

How we check these prices
The taxi estimates use the tariff set by Portugal's 2024 national taxi price convention (the 2024 price convention as set out by AMT (September 2024 report)). We re-read that source before every update; the last check was on 2026-10-14. Transfer prices are live quotes from the booking page for a set travel date, so your own date may cost more or less. If a driver quotes you something different, tell us and we will check the source again.
