Faro Airport to Albufeira: Taxi, Bus & Transfer Prices 2026

Albufeira, one of the Algarve's main resorts, is 46 km west of Faro Airport, about 40 minutes by car. There is no fixed taxi fare: taxis from the airport run on the meter. The cheapest way is the Vamus Aerobus, which runs direct from the terminal.

Taxi on the meter

Most meters still run the 2024 national price convention. On it the trip comes to about €51 on a weekday between 06:00 and 21:00 and €61 at night, at weekends and on public holidays. From the airport the meter uses the per-kilometre tariff, in which you also pay for the taxi's empty return. Slow traffic and the €1.60 supplement for luggage in the boot add a little.

What changes on 23 October 2026

AMT Regulation 1324-A/2026 replaces that tariff with a flag fall plus a price per kilometre and per minute: €0.58 and €0.28 in the first year, with the per-minute part 25% to 75% higher at night, at weekends and on public holidays. A weekday daytime trip to Albufeira then works out at about €40, less than today's meter. Taxis have 90 days to reprogram their meters, so until about 21 January 2027 you may meet either tariff.

Aerobus

The Vamus Aerobus (line 56) goes from the airport to Albufeira for €11 a person, with 20% off a return ticket. The timetable changes with the season, so check it before you fly.

Pre-booked transfer

A private transfer was quoted at €48 for a sedan (up to three passengers) and €64 for a minivan, for an arrival on a weekday afternoon in late October. That is a little under today's daytime meter, with the price fixed before you fly and the driver waiting at arrivals. A standard taxi takes four passengers, so five or more need a minivan or two taxis.

Which should you choose?

Up to three people travelling light save with the Aerobus; for four, a taxi costs about the same. With luggage or children, a taxi and a pre-booked transfer cost about the same on today's meter. Once a taxi runs the new tariff, a daytime taxi is the cheaper car, while the transfer keeps a fixed price and a driver who tracks your flight. Bolt also picks up at the airport, at prices that change with demand.
