Lagos is at the western end of the Algarve, 91 km from Faro Airport and a little over an hour by car. It is the longest of the usual airport runs, so the way you travel makes the biggest difference to the price. There is no fixed taxi fare.

Taxi on the meter

On the 2024 national price convention, still in most meters, the trip comes to about €98 on a weekday between 06:00 and 21:00 and €118 at night, at weekends and on public holidays. From the airport the meter uses the per-kilometre tariff, in which you also pay for the taxi's empty return, which is why this long run costs so much.

What changes on 23 October 2026

Under AMT Regulation 1324-A/2026 a fare is a flag fall plus €0.58 per kilometre and €0.28 per minute in the first year, with a higher per-minute rate at night, at weekends and on public holidays. A weekday daytime trip to Lagos then works out at about €74, far below today's meter. Taxis have 90 days to reprogram their meters, until about 21 January 2027, so in the meantime you may meet either tariff.

Aerobus and train

The Vamus Aerobus (line 56) runs from the airport to Lagos for €17 a person, with 20% off a return ticket; the timetable changes with the season. There is no railway station at the airport, but regional trains run from Faro station along the coast to Lagos for €8.30: take the Próximo 16 bus or a taxi into Faro first.

Pre-booked transfer

A private transfer was quoted at €107 for a sedan (up to three passengers) and €126 for a minivan, for an arrival on a weekday afternoon in late October. On today's meter that is inside the taxi range, with the price fixed before you fly and the driver waiting at arrivals. Once a taxi runs the new tariff, a daytime taxi is cheaper.

Which should you choose?

For one or two people, the Aerobus costs far less than any car. Families with luggage pay about the same for a taxi or a transfer on today's meter, and a group of five or more needs the minivan or two taxis. If your taxi already runs the new tariff, it is the cheapest car.

How we check these prices

The taxi estimates use the tariff set by Portugal's 2024 national taxi price convention (the 2024 price convention as set out by AMT (September 2024 report)). We re-read that source before every update; the last check was on 2026-10-14. Transfer prices are live quotes from the booking page for a set travel date, so your own date may cost more or less. If a driver quotes you something different, tell us and we will check the source again.
