Malta Airport Taxi Fares 2026: Official Fixed Prices by Town

Taxis from Malta International Airport charge a fixed price by destination instead of running the meter. You pay at the taxi booth in the arrivals hall (the Welcomers' Hall) or book through the Malta Taxi app, and the airport publishes the fare for every town on the island: €17 to Valletta, €20 to Sliema, €20 to St Julian's, €28 to Buġibba and €37 to Ċirkewwa for the Gozo ferry.

How do the fixed fares work?

The price is per car, not per person. The airport says an administrative fee is added but does not give the amount, and on 25 December and 1 January there is a €4.50 supplement. The published list carries no date, so check the price at the booth before you pay.

Is there a bus from the airport?

Malta Public Transport runs five Airport Direct routes. TD2 and TD3 serve St Julian's and Sliema every 30 minutes, TD4 goes to Valletta and the Gozo fast ferry terminal, and TD1 runs to Mellieħa and Ċirkewwa every hour. The fare is €3 per person, or €3.50 on TD1, paid on board in cash or by contactless card.

Can you use Bolt, Uber or eCabs?

Yes, the ride-hailing apps Bolt, Uber and eCabs all work in Malta, but their prices change with demand, so we do not list them here. Their drivers no longer pick up outside the arrivals hall: they collect passengers in the airport's main outdoor car park, while the white airport taxis wait at the rank by arrivals. Malta International Airport has applied for a dedicated lane for these cars.

Taxi or pre-booked transfer?

For short trips the airport taxi is the cheaper car. A pre-booked private transfer to Valletta or St Julian's was quoted at €26 for a sedan, against fixed taxi fares of €17 and €20. On the longest run the gap is small: €40 for a transfer to Ċirkewwa against the taxi's €37. A transfer is worth it if you want the car confirmed before you fly, with the driver waiting at arrivals.
