Taxi
Airport taxis charge a fixed fare per car instead of running the meter: €17 to Valletta and €17 to Floriana, just outside the city gate. You pay at the taxi booth in the arrivals hall or book through the Malta Taxi app. The airport adds an administrative fee it does not specify, and the fare list it published has since been taken down, so confirm the price at the booth.
Bus TD4
The Airport Direct route TD4 runs to Valletta and on to the Gozo fast ferry terminal every 30 minutes, for €3 per person, paid on board in cash or by contactless card. It is the cheapest way in, and the simplest if you are heading straight for the fast ferry to Gozo.
Ride-hailing
Bolt, Uber and eCabs also operate, with prices that change with demand; their drivers collect passengers in the airport's main outdoor car park, not at the arrivals rank. See our Malta Airport taxi guide for the fixed fares to every town.
Taxi or transfer?
For Valletta the fixed taxi fare is the cheaper car: a pre-booked transfer was quoted at €26 for a sedan. Book the transfer if you want the car confirmed in advance with a driver meeting your flight; otherwise the taxi booth or the TD4 bus will do.

A hire car makes sense in Malta if you plan to explore Gozo or the north coast, or you are staying in a farmhouse or villa away from the bus routes. For a stay in Valletta, Sliema or St Julian’s it rarely pays: parking there is hard to find, and the Airport Direct buses, taxis and ride-hailing apps cover the short distances.
Malta drives on the left. The Gozo Channel ferry from Ċirkewwa carries cars: you drive on without a ticket and pay for the round trip when you leave Gozo, at the Mġarr booths or online. The standard car-and-driver fare is €15.70 for a vehicle up to 5.3 metres. Booking the car before you fly is usually cheaper than walk-up rates at the airport counters.

How we check these prices
The taxi fares come from the list published by Malta International Airport (the airport's former online fare list). We re-read that source before every update; the last check was on 2026-09-24. Transfer prices are live quotes from the booking page for a set travel date, so your own date may cost more or less. If a driver quotes you something different, tell us and we will check the source again.
