Athens Airport Taxi Fares 2026: €50 Fixed Fare, €65 at Night

Taxis from Athens International Airport charge a fixed fare to the city centre: €50 from 05:00 to midnight and €65 from midnight to 05:00, per car, with tolls, luggage and surcharges included. Both rose by €10 when a new ministerial decision was published in the Government Gazette on 18 September 2026. As of 24 September 2026 the airport's own English page still listed the old €40 and €55, so expect to see both figures quoted online for a while.

Where does the fixed fare apply?

The fixed fare covers trips between the airport and the area inside Athens' inner ring, the same boundary as the small Daktylios traffic zone around the historic centre, which takes in Syntagma, Plaka and Monastiraki. Outside that ring the meter runs.

What does the meter cost?

On the meter a ride starts at €1.80 and then costs €0.90 per kilometre on Tariff 1 or €1.25 on Tariff 2, which applies from midnight to 05:00 and outside the city zone. Trips from the airport add a €4 surcharge, the minimum fare is €4 and each piece of luggage over 10 kg is €0.39. Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio have no fixed fare, so the port runs are metered.

Metro, bus or taxi?

The metro and the express buses are much cheaper. Line 3 reaches Syntagma in about 40 minutes on the €9 airport ticket, and the X95 bus runs to Syntagma around the clock for €5.50. Even for four people the taxi costs more than four metro tickets, but it takes you to the door and needs no change with luggage.

Taxi or pre-booked transfer?

A pre-booked private transfer to Syntagma was quoted at €63 for a sedan, more than the day taxi fare of €50 and about the same as the night fare. To Piraeus the transfer is competitive: €64 fixed, against roughly €50 to €67 on the meter before tolls.
