Athens Airport to Piraeus Port: Taxi, Metro, Bus & Transfer

Piraeus, the port for most island ferries and cruise ships, is on the far side of Athens from the airport: the transfer quote gave 49 km and about an hour. Unlike the trip to the city centre, there is no fixed taxi fare to Piraeus, so the meter runs.

Taxi on the meter

On the official tariff the trip comes to about €50 if the whole ride is on Tariff 1 and €67 if it is all on Tariff 2, including the €4 airport surcharge but before motorway tolls. Tariff 2 applies from midnight to 05:00 and outside the city zone, so most daytime rides land somewhere in between. Companies advertising a flat taxi price to Piraeus are quoting their own rates, not an official fare.

Pre-booked transfer

A private transfer was quoted at €64 for a sedan (up to three passengers) and €136 for a minivan, for an afternoon trip in mid-October. For up to three people that sits inside the meter range, with the price fixed in advance, which helps when you have a ferry to catch. A standard taxi takes four passengers, so a group of five needs two taxis or a minivan.

Metro and bus

Metro Line 3 runs from the airport to Piraeus without a change in about an hour, with airport trains every 36 minutes, on the €9 airport ticket. Greek transport news reported in early 2026 that the line might be split at Egaleo, which would add a change, so check the STASY site before you travel. The X96 express bus goes to the port around the clock for €5.50 and takes about 90 minutes.

Which should you choose?

With luggage and a ferry to catch, a car is the safer choice, and at €64 the pre-booked transfer costs about the same as the meter for up to three people. Travelling light with time to spare, the metro is the cheapest way and avoids road traffic.
