Counting days sounds trivial until a deadline depends on it. Contract notice periods, visa stays, project schedules and interest calculations all hinge on whether the count is inclusive, whether weekends are counted, and which day the clock starts.
This calculator counts the interval between the two dates — the number of nights, not the number of calendar days touched. Add one if your deadline counts both the first and last day.
Why months are harder than days
Months have no fixed length, so "three months from 31 January" has no single obvious answer. The convention used here is to advance whole calendar months first and then count remaining days, which matches how most contracts and legal deadlines are read.
This is also why converting a day count to months by dividing by 30 drifts. Over a year the error is about five days; over a decade, nearly two months.
Weekdays, holidays and leap years
The weekday figure here removes Saturdays and Sundays only. Public holidays differ by country and often by region within a country, so they are not deducted — check a local calendar if the deadline is a working-day one.
Leap years are handled automatically. February 29 exists in years divisible by four, except century years not divisible by 400 — which is why 1900 was not a leap year and 2000 was.

- No — only Saturdays and Sundays. Holidays vary too much by country and region to deduct reliably.
- Why does the calculation use UTC?
- Local time zones have 23 and 25 hour days at daylight saving transitions, which can shift a day count by one. Calculating in UTC removes that source of error.
